Quick Answer
For most homes, buy the Dr Trust USA Legend. It is a step-on Bluetooth scale with 4 electrodes, a 180 kg limit and unlimited user profiles in its app, and its listing states a 3-year warranty, the longest here alongside Beurer. If you do not want your body data in an app, the Beurer BF 500 is the only scale here that shows body fat, water and muscle on its own display and can be set up without a phone.
Dr Trust USA Legend Smart Scale 526 — 4 Electrodes, 180 kg, Bluetooth
A step-on body fat scale with 4 electrodes, 180 kg capacity, Bluetooth sync to the Dr Trust 360 app and unlimited user profiles, per the listing and Dr Trust's own store. Body composition shows in the app; the display shows weight. 3-year warranty.
Check Price on AmazonWhatever you buy, read every body fat, muscle and BMR figure as an estimate. Use it to watch the trend over weeks, not to judge a single morning.
A smart scale weighs you like any other scale, then passes a very small electrical current through your body and uses the resistance it meets, plus the height, age and sex you enter, to estimate body fat, muscle, water and the rest. That method is called bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The listings sell these scales on how many "parameters" they show, 18, 20, 25, 50, and that number is not what decides how useful the readings are.
This guide compares five scales across the two designs you will find on Amazon India, foot-only and hand-and-foot, and explains what each reading can and cannot tell you.
How this guide was put together: I do not own any of these five scales, so you will not find "I tested each of these" claims here. What follows is a specification comparison built from each product's Amazon India listing, and the brand's own store or instruction manual where it states the same spec. Safety warnings are quoted only from the brands' own manuals. Where a listing or manual does not state something, the table says so rather than guessing. How we source claims and where AI is used is set out in our editorial policy.
4 Electrodes vs 8: Where the Current Actually Goes
A BIA scale can only estimate what its current passes through.
- Foot-only scales have electrodes under your feet. The current goes up one leg and down the other. Everything above the hips, your trunk and arms, is not on that path, so the scale fills it in from formulas based on your weight, height, age and sex.
- Hand-and-foot designs add electrodes you hold. The Omron HBF-375 in this guide uses 8 sensors on both hands and feet, per Omron, so the current can run through the arms and trunk as well, and it reports separate figures for the arms, trunk and legs.
Four of the five scales here are foot-only. Only two listings state their electrode count at all: Dr Trust says 4 electrodes, and Omron says 8 sensors across hands and feet. The other three do not, so the table marks them "Not stated". Some listings advertise "4 high-precision sensors". That is not an electrode count: Dr Trust's listing, for example, lists 4 sensors and 4 electrodes as separate parts.
What this means in practice: a foot-only scale is fine for what most people need, a weekly weight and a rough body fat trend. If you want separate readings for your arms, trunk and legs, you need a hand-and-foot design.
"50 Parameters" Is Not 50 Measurements
A step-on scale measures two things: your weight, and the resistance of the current's path through your body. Body fat, muscle mass, water, bone mass, protein, BMR, visceral fat, metabolic age and "body score" are all calculated from those two numbers plus the profile you typed in. A scale that lists 25 parameters has not measured more than one that lists 12; it has run more formulas on the same reading.
So compare scales on the things that change the reading or how you use it: where the current goes, the weight limit, whether the numbers show on the scale or only in an app, how many people can use it, and the warranty.
Accuracy and Safety: Read This Before You Buy
Accuracy. Everything except weight is an estimate, and BIA estimates move with how much water is in your body. Omron's HBF-375 manual says it directly: the water content where the current flows "will affect body resistance", so you should measure "while water content in body is steady". Omron's manual says not to measure after strenuous exercise, after a sauna or shower, after drinking much alcohol, or within 1–2 hours of a large meal or a lot of water. Beurer's BF 500 manual recommends the same time every day, ideally in the morning, after the toilet, on an empty stomach.
Both manuals also list people whose readings may be off. Omron lists children in growth stage, older people, people with a fever, pregnant women, people with osteoporosis, people with dropsy (fluid retention), people receiving haemodialysis, and professional athletes or bodybuilders. Beurer lists children, performance athletes, and people with oedema, osteoporosis, cardiovascular medication or major anatomical abnormalities of the legs.
Use the numbers for trends over weeks, measured in the same conditions each time. To cross-check that trend with a method that uses a tape measure instead of an electrical current, our body fat calculator gives a tape-measure estimate from your neck, waist and (for women) hip measurements, using the U.S. Navy method. Do not use them to diagnose anything, and do not chase a single reading. Dr Trust's own manual says its measurements "are for reference only" and to consult a doctor before starting any diet or exercise programme.
Safety. These scales pass a current through your body, so check the warning for the model you buy:

The Reviews
1. Dr Trust USA Legend 526 — Best Overall
The Legend leads because its listing and Dr Trust's own store answer the questions that matter: 4 electrodes under the feet, a 180 kg limit, Bluetooth sync to the Dr Trust 360 app, unlimited user profiles, and 2 AAA batteries included. It is the only foot-only scale here that states its electrode count, and its 3-year warranty is the longest listed, matched only by Beurer. Dr Trust's store says the warranty runs from the invoice date if you register on the manufacturer's website within 15 days, so register when it arrives.
What to weigh: the scale's display shows your weight; body fat and the other figures show in the app. The listing's review count is shared with another Dr Trust scale, so it does not tell you about this model alone.
Buy this if: you want a family scale with a stated electrode count and the longest warranty here, and you are happy to use an app.
Check Price on Amazon2. Cult Smart Body Fat Scale — Best for Big Households
Cult's scale syncs to the Cult Connect app and supports up to 10 users, which suits a joint family that wants everyone on one scale. The listing gives a 180 kg limit, more than 20 metrics, a 28 × 28 cm tempered glass platform and a 1-year warranty, and the box includes 3 AAA batteries. Cult also states that the scale is "intended for operation solely in India".
What to weigh: the listing mentions electrodes but not how many, and we could not find an official manual with safety warnings. Treat the pacemaker and pregnancy question as unanswered and check with Cult or your doctor first.
Buy this if: several people in your home will use it and you want one app for all of them.
Cult Smart Body Fat Scale — Bluetooth, 10 Users, 180 kg
A Bluetooth body fat scale that syncs to the Cult Connect app, with up to 10 users, a 180 kg limit, more than 20 metrics and a 28 × 28 cm tempered glass platform, per the listing. Electrode count not stated. 1-year warranty.
Check Price on Amazon3. MEDITIVE Bluetooth BMI Scale — Best for Health-App Sync
MEDITIVE's scale connects to the Fitdays app over Bluetooth and, per the listing, syncs with Apple Health and Android health apps, so your weigh-ins can sit alongside the steps and workouts your phone or tracker already logs. The listing gives a 180 kg limit, a 28 × 28 cm platform, 2 AAA batteries and a 1-year warranty.
What to weigh: the listing contradicts itself on metrics: 18 in the title and bullets, 13 in its own comparison chart. Neither the electrode count nor the number of users is stated.
Buy this if: you already track activity in Apple Health or an Android health app and want your weight there too.
MEDITIVE Bluetooth BMI Weight Scale with Body Fat Analyzer — 180 kg
A Bluetooth body fat scale that syncs to the Fitdays app and, per the listing, to Apple Health and Android health apps, with a 180 kg limit and a 28 × 28 cm platform. The listing gives 18 metrics in its title but 13 in its own chart. 1-year warranty.
Check Price on Amazon4. Beurer BF 500 — Works Without an App
The BF 500 is the only scale here you can use fully without a phone. Its manual shows how to create users with the buttons on the scale, and after each weigh-in the display shows BMI, body fat, body water and muscle percentage in turn. If you do connect it, it syncs over Bluetooth to the beurer HealthManager Pro app and stores up to 30 readings per user until it can send them.
It has 8 user slots and recognises each user automatically when their weight is within 3 kg of their last reading, per the manual. The listing states titanium-coated stainless steel electrodes, a 30 × 30 cm safety-glass platform, a 180 kg limit and a 3-year warranty.
What to weigh: the electrode count is not stated, and the display shows four readings rather than the longer lists the app scales advertise. That is the trade for not needing an app.
Buy this if: you would rather keep your body data on the scale, or someone in your home does not use a smartphone.
Beurer BF 500 Diagnostic Bathroom Scale — Bluetooth, 8 Users, 180 kg
A diagnostic bathroom scale that shows BMI, body fat, water and muscle on its own display and can be set up without the app, with optional Bluetooth sync, 8 user slots and a 180 kg limit, per the listing and Beurer's manual. 3-year warranty.
Check Price on Amazon5. Omron HBF-375 Karada Scan — Hand-and-Foot (Not Smart)
The HBF-375 is here as the example of the other design, not as a smart scale. It has no Bluetooth and no app. What it has is 8 sensors on both hands and feet, per Omron: you stand on the base and hold a handle out in front of you, so the current runs through your arms and trunk as well as your legs. That lets it show separate subcutaneous fat and skeletal muscle percentages for the whole body, trunk, arms and legs, alongside body fat, visceral fat level, resting metabolism, BMI and body age.
It stores personal data for 4 people plus a guest mode, and keeps a progress chart going back 90 days on the unit itself. It runs on 4 AA batteries, and its listing states a 1-year warranty.
What to weigh: Omron's manual gives a 135 kg display range, lower than the listing title's 140 kg and well below the 180 kg of the others. With no app, you read the history on the scale or write it down.
Buy this if: you want arm, trunk and leg readings and do not need your data on a phone.
Omron HBF-375 Karada Scan Body Composition Monitor — 8 Sensors, Hands and Feet
A hand-and-foot body composition monitor with 8 sensors, segmental fat and muscle readings for the arms, trunk and legs, 4 user profiles plus guest mode and a 90-day progress chart on the unit, per Omron. No Bluetooth or app. Weight range up to 135 kg per Omron's manual. 1-year warranty.
Check Price on AmazonSmart Scale vs Normal Scale: Is It Worth It?
A normal digital scale tells you the one number a smart scale measures most reliably, your weight. If that weekly number is all you will look at, a normal scale does the job.
A smart scale earns its place in two cases:
- You are training as well as dieting. When you are doing strength work, weight can stay flat while you lose fat and add muscle. A body fat trend, read over weeks, can show that the flat line is not a stall.
- You will actually look at the history. The app's graph, or Omron's 90-day chart, is the useful part. A single reading tells you very little.
If neither applies, a smart scale is a normal scale with extra numbers.
How to Get Readings You Can Compare
Every brand's manual here says some version of the same thing. To make this week's reading comparable with last week's:
- Same time, same state. Morning, after the toilet, before eating or drinking, per Beurer's manual.
- Barefoot and dry. Body fat needs bare skin on the electrodes; Dr Trust's and Beurer's manuals both say so, and wet feet are a slip risk on glass.
- Hard, level floor. Not a carpet or a mat. Omron says you cannot get correct results on soft ground.
- Avoid the obvious distortions. Not straight after a workout, a shower, alcohol or a big meal.
- Compare weekly averages, not one day against the next.
For a broader view of what to track while you lose weight, see how to tell if it's fat or just weight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are smart scales accurate for body fat?
The weight reading is the accurate part. Body fat, muscle and water are estimates calculated from the resistance the scale measures plus your profile, and they shift with how hydrated you are. They are most useful as a trend over weeks, measured in the same conditions each time.
4 electrodes or 8: which should I buy?
For a weekly weight and a rough body fat trend, a 4-electrode foot-only scale is enough. An 8-electrode hand-and-foot design, like the Omron HBF-375, adds separate readings for the arms, trunk and legs, because the current also runs through your upper body.
Is a smart scale worth it over a normal scale?
Only if you will look at the trend. If you train as well as diet, a body fat trend can show progress when your weight is flat. If you only want your weight once a week, a normal digital scale gives you the same number.
Why does my body fat change between back-to-back readings?
Small changes in how you stand, how dry your feet are and how much water is in your body change the resistance the scale measures. Omron's manual notes that water content affects body resistance. Take one reading in the same conditions each time, and compare weeks, not minutes.
Can I use a smart scale if I have a pacemaker or I am pregnant?
Check the manual for your model and ask your doctor first. Dr Trust's Legend manual and Beurer's BF 500 manual say not to use their scales with a pacemaker or during pregnancy, and Omron's manual says never to use the HBF-375 with a pacemaker or other medical electronic implant. Cult and MEDITIVE do not state a warning that we could find.
Do I need the app?
For the Dr Trust, Cult and MEDITIVE scales, yes: their body composition readings show in the app. The Beurer BF 500 shows body fat, water and muscle on its display and can be set up without the app. The Omron HBF-375 has no app at all.
How many family members can use one scale?
Dr Trust supports unlimited profiles in its app, Cult up to 10, Beurer 8, and Omron 4 plus a guest mode. MEDITIVE does not state a number.
What is the best time of day to weigh?
Morning, after the toilet and before eating or drinking, is what Beurer's manual recommends, and Omron's suggests after getting up or at least 2 hours after a meal. What matters most is weighing at the same time every time.
Does any smart scale here work above 150 kg?
The Dr Trust, Cult, MEDITIVE and Beurer scales all state a 180 kg limit. The Omron HBF-375's manual gives a display range up to 135 kg.
Final Word
For most homes, the Dr Trust USA Legend is the safest start: a stated 4-electrode design, a 180 kg limit, unlimited users and a 3-year warranty. Choose the Cult for a big household on one app, the MEDITIVE if you want your weigh-ins in Apple Health or an Android health app, and the Beurer BF 500 if you would rather not use an app at all. The Omron HBF-375 is the one to look at if you want arm, trunk and leg readings and can do without Bluetooth.
Whichever you choose, the scale is a tracking tool. The work is still the deficit, the protein and the training. Our calorie deficit guide covers the first, and the fitness tracker guide covers the activity side.
